Maurice Lacroix is in that category of ‘affordable luxury,’ which means you get genuine Swiss watchmaking skill and heritage handcraftsmanship that’s packaged in a contemporary way. At WatchPilot, we look to Maurice Lacroix as a lesson in blending old and new. There are old school touches everywhere you look, but Aikon watches and Eliros watches never look old fashioned. Accessible prices and a great brand ethos mean Maurice Lacroix watches are a luxury choice for the right person.
You’ve probably noticed we focus on two core Maurice Lacroix watch collections, the Aikon and the Eliros. The Maurice Lacroix Aikon watch is based on the brand’s Calypso collection, which was discontinued in 2003. The main feature to note is the six-arm bezel around the watch dial that was lifted from the Calypso and put into the Aikon repertoire. It’s probably the brand’s most important collection of men’s watches and it was responsible for putting Maurice Lacroix back on the Swiss watchmaking map in 2016. In contrast, the Maurice Lacroix Eliros watch has been around since the late 1990s and it’s all about sleek legibility and bright colours.
Maurice Lacroix watches have been manufactured in the company’s own state-of-the-art workshops in Saignelégier, Switzerland, for more than 40 years. Maurice Lacroix is without question a Swiss-made watch brand. It was founded in 1975 by parent company, Desco von Schulthess, which can trace its story to 1889 in Zürich. In the 1960s, they purchased a watch assembly factory and made pieces for a whole range of named brands as a private label manufacturer. Now, this expertise has been passed down to the contemporary Maurice Lacroix watch team.
